Self Policing : Way to transform

This article is for those few who don’t believe in any law enforcing agency like Police or don’t believe in self policing either.

Educated, but not civilized!

We as nation loving Indians on roads, come across with people driving vehicles with all possible indisciplined ways & means of driving. This mal behaviour of driving. We have inculcated the practice of violating traffic rules on a very regular basis. Call it, the zebra crossing, the red light, no entry zone, no left turn, the prohibited U-turn and all other traffic signals are meant for all educated people to read, and only a few civilized ones are seen to follow.

A civilized society is not only educated but is also known for a disciplined approach through all walks of life. Since ancient times, the Indian subcontinent has been following culture-enriched life practices. That holds true not only for imparting ethical education but also teaching disciplined approach towards how to live productive life. Culture & religion were so good on this land since ages that proper social maintenance ethics were an integral part of a humble and yet subtle natural ethical practices.

In those ancient days a law-abiding society was in good practice with established simple laws of natural justice. Later only, variety of Rules were prepared and imposed through ancient Vedas, various Wars and by MegnaCarta(13 century).

There is no doubt to accept that 2 unique inventions of Language and the Wheel have rendered the human race to speed up with all natural sciences and inventions. With the advent of Mechanical engine, movements of human race through the land, water, and air have been tremendous.
There have seen a paradigm shift in transferring from one place to another. This was the result of a disciplined scientific approach to develop electricity and oil driven engines, bulbs and high end invention like nuclear reactors.

No development is complete where sane factors of humanity and the environment are not kept in mind. A disciplined society is a satisfied and ever-developing entity making hardly any difference while the system is communist, capitalist, or monarchist.

India, being a developing society, have to start behaving through its citizens, in a more disciplined and system-loving way wherein the laws of the land are followed in a very civilized manner.

It is very pertinent to state that the first crime by any citizen is committed while driving a vehicle on roads. Very regularly, we see a minor is driving a scooter, bike, or car without a proper driving license or under a guidance of any elder. We take things for so granted that we don’t even care of life threatening accidents. The vehicles nowadays are more powerful, stringent, and strong, and the roads are also very good in condition across the length and breadth of the nation. But the same cannot be said about the riders or drivers who are not in good enough in following the rules and regulations of traffic.

The question arises, “Is it so difficult for these huge number of vehicles on roads, to follow the traffic rules?”

It’s so obvious that at every point of concern on road, a policemen cannot be posted. And we are so democratically obsessed that we don’t give a damn concern to the presence of a police guards for enforcing the law of the land. What’s the right time to let this democracy be enrich with concept of self-policing. That’s also true that 90% of citizens abide by the law of the land and take due cognizance of the constitution and respect the executive, legislative, and judiciary. But this remaining 10% of citizens need to be taught or, if possible, exposed to a good number of educational classes to understand the importance of discipline and how to be law-abiding. Self-policing is such a good practice and a less time-consuming, disciplined way to lead a life inside out.
