Antibiotics: Justified Use!

दि.27.12.2025 के मन की बात के संस्करण में, हमारे माननीय प्रधानमंत्री ने एंटीबायोटिक्स के गलत, फ्री और खुलेआम इस्तेमाल के मुद्दे पर ज़ोर दिया, जिससे इन एंटीबायोटिक्स के विरुद्ध नागरिकों में लगातार ड्रग रेजिस्टेंस हो रहा है.

मुझे निराशा हुई क्योंकि माननीय प्रधानमंत्री को आगे आकर इस बात पर सबका ध्यान खींचना पड़ा कि पूरे देश में एंटीबायोटिक्स का फ्री और आसानी से इस्तेमाल न सिर्फ आम लोगों द्वारा मेडिकल स्टोर पर फार्मासिस्ट की थोड़ी मदद से या खुद से किया जा रहा है, बल्कि दवा लिखने वाले चिकित्सकों द्वारा भी किया जा रहा है।

है ना!

क्या आपको नहीं लगता कि एंटीबायोटिक्स के सरल और निरंतर प्रयोग को इस तरह से न्यायसंगत उपयोग को स्थापित करने हेतु हमारी नैतिक और सैद्धांतिक ज़िम्मेदारी है कि हम साधारण संक्रमण के लिए भी प्रथम श्रेणी, द्वितीय श्रेणी या तृतीय श्रेणी के एंटीबायोटिक्स के प्रिस्क्रिप्शन लिखने को सीमित रखें ?

मेडिकल प्रोफेशनल्स के तौर पर हमारी नैतिक ज़िम्मेदारी के साथ केमिकल चेतना जागृत करना दायित्व भी है कि हम सभी छोटे, बड़े इन्फेक्शन के मामले में समाज की सेहत का ध्यान रखें। समय की ज़रूरत है कि हम अपनी प्रिस्क्रिप्शन लिखने की स्किल्स को बदलें और उन पर अनावश्यक एंटीबायोटिक के उपयोग / प्रयोग पर रोक लगाएं ताकि शरीर में एंटीबायोटिक के विरुद्ध अंदरूनी रेजिस्टेंस पैदा होने देने से के लिए एंटीबायोटिक दवाओं/केमिकल्स का सही इस्तेमाल बेहतर हो सके, इस तरह से कि बिना ओवर-द-काउंटर एंटीबायोटिक्स का इस्तेमाल किए छोटे-मोटे इन्फेक्शन को कंट्रोल किया जा सके।

एक बार जब हम मेडिकल प्रोफेशनल्स के तौर पर एंटीबायोटिक्स के इस्तेमाल का एक एथिकल पैटर्न बना लेंगे, तो वह दिन दूर नहीं जब लोग अपनी सेहत का ध्यान रखेंगे और छोटी-मोटी चीज़ों के लिए, इन्फेक्शन को कंट्रोल करने के लिए नॉन-फार्माकोलॉजिकल तरीकों का इस्तेमाल करेंगे.

क्या यह संभव है?

In today’s MAN KI BAAT, our Hon’ble Prime Minister highlighted an issue of unfair, free, casual & liberal usage of antibiotics leading to sequential drug resistance towards these antibiotics which are used for minor or major infections.

I got a bit disappointed as the Hon’ble prime minister has to come forward and take an initiative in drawing everybody’s attention to check this practice of Free and easy use of antibiotics all across the nation, not only by the common men themselves as self-help with partial assistance from a pharmacist on a medical store, but also by the prescribing medical officer. Isn’t it so!

Don’t you think that that’s our moral & ethical responsibility to rationalise use of antibiotics in such a way that we restrict ourselves in generating prescriptions for minor elements with first generation, second generation or even with third generation antibiotics?

We as medical professionals have a moral responsibility & chemical’s consciousness to take care of the health of society with respect to all minor, major infections.
The need of hour is to modify and restrict our prescription generating skills for the betterment of proper uses of antibiotic drugs/ chemicals to generate innate body resistance. In such a way that trivial infections are controlled without using over-the-counter antibiotics.

Once we as medical professionals generate an ethical pattern of usage of antibiotics, days are not far away when people will take care of their health and for minor elements, non-pharmacological methods will be used to control infections.
